 'Ladies and Gentlemen of the Scout Brigade of Fort George and the Junior Brigade.
Well another campaign is over and other than some dampness on Friday night, things improved and I hope that everyone had a good time and I hope that the Brigade event was a suitable kick-off to another scouting year and it being the first year in our second century.

'Bruce Sellors was one of those scouters who helped create the Scout Brigade of Fort George. For twenty one years he worked tirelessly in the background doing all the administrative work which make sthe event so successful.Bruce died on Saturday January 22nd, 2005. It was sudden and unexpected.We will miss our friend and brother Scout. It will now be up to those of us who go on to make sure the event that he cared so much about continues and flourishes.Farewell Bruce.Camp Chief

 'JUNE 18, 1812Yesterday the Senate approved the bill for war against the United Kingdom by a vote of 19 - 13. Today the House of Represenatives accepted the changes that the Senate had made in its original bill, which had been passed on June 4 by 79 - 49 vote. President James Madison signed the bill immediately.This was not a war for which this nation of 7.5 million was ready. At the outbreak of hostilities it had but one infantry regiment in the field (the 4th Regiment, which would shortly be surrendered in its entirety at Detroit). There was some hope that the enemy was likely as unprepared.The War would come quickly to the Niagara frontier. The news would reach the British here before Americans of this region. Two schooners departed Black Rock for a voyage up the lake. As they left the pull of the Niagara's current and made their turns to westward, the guns of nearby Fort Erie sent balls splashing just past their bows. Forced to turn into the Fort's wharf, their sailors found themselves prisoners of a foe that they did not know they had.
